Peter Hammill performing "This Side Of The Looking Glass" live from '81 (i think)
i think this song is overwhelming in it's power. the lyrics penetrate me in the heart of the heart...
The stars in the heavens still shine up above me: how lovely they'd seem if you were with me but you're gone through the looking-glass and I am left to pass these nights alone. I'm lost, I'm dumb, I'm blind, I am drunk with sadness, sunk by madness - the wave overwhelms me, the mirror repels me, the echo of your laugh drifts through the looking-glass and I am alone.
No friendship, no comfort, no future, no home, the past lingers with me: you're all the love I've ever known and without you I'm nothing but empty and silent, reflecting on all that I've lost. I let you slip away so soon.
Can you hear me? This is my song I am dying; you are gone.
These words are not enough to save my soul, they just mock me from the mirror. I'm cold and I'm yearning, I've told you I'm burning, my eyes can't stand the light... Like a stray dog in the night I'll shuffle off alone.
We all make our futures but I have lost mine; I'm hoping for a miracle but finding no sign....
The stars in the constellations, each one just sadly flickers and falls... without you they mean nothing at all.
(also, seeing Peter sing this makes me fall in love with him in some unknown way)

Popol Vuh - Angel Of The Air, Part Two |

Andrew W.K. is a member of Current 93 (you already lost me with that shit Black Ships Ate The Sky album)
I'd really been curious about this album I kept coming across at the Amoeba records in Berkeley for a while, and it turns out to be Windy Weber from Windy & Carl. I really like the fact that it's so very different from the duo's recordings, being very NOT dreamy, but edgy. You really gotta dig the silly old passport photo of her on the cover! Looks like someone at an early Cocteau Twins show.

also, tonight is the first time i'd ever really listened to David Bowie's "Station to Station" (song), blown away! this should've been the hit, not "Golden Years" (yuck)

I'm making mp3 cds of my favorite Scottish pop music. Send me your address if you'd like one (my email). This is post punk/indie, so don't expect any Bay City Rollers, Pilot, or even Big Country. Also, it's not loaded with Belle and Sebastian for the reason of highlighting more "obscure" acts.

Orange Juice - Louise Louise.mp3
That's a triffle obvious, girl Telling me you don't belong in this world Telling me as I fall flat on my face In any case, that's your fall from grace I know these melodramatics don't make things all right Nor will they make you see things in a different light
You're a very pretty girl, Louise But are the things you say just meant to tease I'm doubled up on bended knees Tell me, precious, tell me please I know these melodramatics don't make things all right Nor will they make you see things in a in a different light
And you can bite your lip 'Til the blood ran red They're still such crazy things To have said
Have a wonderful birthday, dear Such a wonderful birthday, dear It only comes but once a year I'll spoil your party with a punky sneer I know these melodramtics will make things alright Nor will they make you see things in a different light

after posting the amazing live version of Durutti Column's "The Missing Boy" here is Psychic TV's lesser tribute to Ian Curtis. Sadly they cut this at the dawn of their stupid acid dance phase. Should they cut it quickly after Godstar (Brian Jones tribute) it probably would've been better.

McCarthy - Red Sleeping Beauty.mp3

this song is so good! i swear the Pale Saints borrowed heavily from it on their early releases and a swedish group even used the title as their band name.
